What is a Hope of Heaven for Teens' Testimony? Why write one?

A testimony is a personal reflection on how God has been working in your life. Writing one for this website could be a great opportunity to share a piece of how you have seen God in your grief journey (or as you’ve been supporting a friend through grief). Testimonies are a beautiful form of self-reflection. They can also remind others that God is working in their lives too, which could help them trust in Him during difficult times.

For Hope of Heaven for Teens, a testimony is meant to be more personal than an article. You can decide how much or little you share. (Although, we may edit certain details before publication if we see any privacy risks. See ‘Tip 3’ of this article for more details on avoiding some of those risks. If you submit your email address on the submission form, we will contact you about any changes we make.). To see examples of past ones, please visit our ‘Testimonies’ page for ideas: https://www.hopeofheavenforteens.com/testimonies

Before sharing guidelines, we want to say thank you for considering this opportunity. God has given you a story to share. We hope that reflecting on it will be a blessing to you and other website visitors if you choose to submit it!

Testimony Writing Details

  • A Hope of Heaven for Teens testimony can be as long (or as short) as you would like it to be. As of 2026, most articles have been 5 Google Docs pages. Yours can be any length that feels most natural to your writing style and specific story.

  • We love seeing your thoughts! You can definitely submit multiple testimonies!

Guidelines

While the writing process is mostly flexible, there are a few important guidelines to be aware of when writing. Unfortunately, we cannot publish your testimony if three guidelines are not followed:

Statement of Faith: Please make sure that your article’s topic and wording agrees with our Statement of Faith. (Linked here: Our Statement of Faith)

Cite Sources: If you plan to use quotes that are not Bible verses, you need to formally cite your source to avoid breaking copyright laws. (We have more details below.) (Bible Verse Citation: You do not need to formally cite Bible verses, but please list the reference and translation so that readers can find the passage for themselves if desired. Example: “Work willingly as if for the Lord and not for man.” Colossians 3:23 (NLT))

No AI: The writing and accompanying image need to be entirely your own. Please do not use Artificial Intelligence (AI) at all. Your thoughts and experiences are valuable. Our management team edits grammar before publishing any article you submit. We value your authentic thoughts over perfection.

AI may be able to ‘touch up’ your writing or save you time, but then your article would not reflect your journey or thoughts in a meaningful way. It might read nicely, but it wouldn’t be beautiful. Words are most impactful when they are yours.

There are a few other things to keep in mind as you write:

Theological Perspectives: Theology tends to come up more in articles, but sometimes your story may imply specific theological perspectives. You are absolutely welcome to share your own theological perspective as you write, but please remember that everyone comes from a different faith background. On many topics, including Heaven, no single perspective can be fully determined as true. Respecting differences within Christianity (ecumenism) is one of Hope of Heaven for teens’ core values. (For more information, please visit our ‘About’ page.) (Your story may not involve theological implications at all. This is just a detail to be aware of as you write.)

Grief-Related Topics: God can use any part of your testimony to impact people for His glory. However, on Hope of Heaven for Teens, we ask that you keep the portions you share to one of the topics listed below (Feel free to email hopeofHeaven4teens@gmail.com if you have questions about this!):

  • What your relationship with God has been like as you’ve grieved the death of a close loved one

  • What your relationship with God has been like as you’ve supported a friend grieving the death of a close loved one

  • Where you have seen God providing for you along your grief journey

  • How specific methods of remembering your loved one have impacted you

  • Ways you honor your loved one’s memory

  • Experiences you have had during your grief journey that have impacted your faith

Protecting Your Privacy: As mentioned earlier, the Management Team wants to prevent privacy risks. We have three tips to help prevent any issues we would need to edit before publishing your testimony:

  • Names: Please do not use specific names. If you want to describe a specific person, you could use a generic description (e.g. ‘my sister’, ‘my friend’, ‘my teacher’, or ‘a woman who goes to my church’) or use a first name that is slightly different from the actual first name (e.g. If the person’s real name is Eloise, you could say in the testimony: … Emma (name has been changed).). We prefer generic descriptions, but will still publish the testimony with first name as long as they all have been changed.

  • Locations: Please do not use specific state, street, city, country, or school names. For most purposes, simply saying ‘in another state’, ‘on vacation’, or ‘at my school’ should work for the flow of your story.

  • Stories Involving Others: It’s generally a good idea to ask anyone involved in a story you plan to publish online permission to share the story before submission, even if you are not using their name. You may need to write it more generically so they are comfortable with it being shared.

We will connect with you about any editing needed related to theological implications, privacy concerns, or your topic if you have provided your email address in the submission form.

Guideline 2 Details: Citing Sources

Adding endnotes to your article is an easy way to cite your sources clearly. Typically, you can do this by adding a note in parentheses at the end of the quote stating ‘see endnote __’ and making a category titled ‘Endnotes’ at the end of your article. (You can view the image below if that explanation was unhelpful to you.)

(Please consistently use one formal citation style in the list, such as MLA, APA, or Chicago so that the information is clear to a reader. You can find specific information for citing different types of sources in your preferred style on Welcome to the Purdue OWL - Purdue OWL® - Purdue University.)

Submission Steps

  • Write your testimony! Visit the ‘Testimony Ideas & Tips’ page if you know you want to write, but don’t know what to write about or how to structure it.

  • Make sure your topic & wording align with the Statement of Faith

  • Make sure any quotes you've used are citedMake sure you have references next to any Bible verses you’ve quoted

  • Add a title for your testimony - This is optional, but highly encouraged. Try to summarize the article with your title in 4-10 words.

  • Please pray that

    • God will use what you share in your testimony to bring hope to someone in need of the reminder that He is with them

    • For everyone who reads your testimony to continue to grow closer to God in their situations and find peace, hope, and healing in Him

  • Log into your Google account to access the Google Form (Short Testimony Submission Form) or email hopeofHeaven4teens@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Testimony Submission’ if you do not have a Google account. In the Google Form or email, please include:

    • Your first name (or type ‘Anonymous’)

    • The testimony title (optional)Your testimony file

    • Your agreement that you did not use AI to write the testimony

Once you submit your testimony, we will review it over 1-2 weeks. We read each submission carefully. Occasionally, we make edits for fixing grammatical errors and/or typos, deleting or adding a few words, and editing the length or structure of the testimony itself.

Sometimes we have questions about a testimony submission, so the Google form will ask you to provide your email address. If you choose not to provide your email, we may not be able to publish your testimony if we have questions or made a large amount of edits. (At the current time, we do not send marketing emails. You would only get an email from us if we had a specific question about your content submission or in reply to an email of yours.)

Conclusion

This process may sound complicated. We are here to help at any step of the way though! Please email hopeofHeaven4teens@gmail.com with any questions you have.

Thank you so much for considering writing a testimony! We pray that you do, that your writing process goes well, and that this page was helpful to you. We look forward to supporting the positive impact your testimony may have for other teenagers if you choose to serve this way!

Writing about your personal journey can be hard. We hope that in the process God will help you reflect on every gift He has given you as you’ve stepped out in faith, leaned on him, and learned more about him during the most challenging parts of life.
